Online blackboard with real chalk colours
The same endless board, on a green-black slate. White and yellow chalk read clearly from the back row, and a dark screen is easier on the eyes in a bright classroom.
When a chalkboard beats a whiteboard
Projectors and large displays throw a lot of light. A board that is mostly white fills the room with it, and fine strokes wash out. Flip the contrast and the screen stays mostly dark: only the lines you draw emit light, so they stand out and the rest of the room isn’t flooded.
The chalk palette is tuned for that surface. White chalk is a soft off-white rather than pure #fff, yellow is bright enough for emphasis, and the pastel pink, blue and green all keep strong contrast against the slate. The highlighter becomes a translucent chalk wash, handy for shading regions of a diagram.
Good fits
- Maths and physics working on a projector, with a ruled or grid background from the paper menu.
- Evening or low-light video lessons where a white screen would glare on camera.
- Menu-board or sign mock-ups with the handwritten text tool.
For timers, a laser pointer and present mode, use the classroom whiteboard; it can switch to chalk too.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between this online blackboard and the whiteboard?
Same tools, darker surface. The blackboard uses a deep green-black slate with chalk colours (white, yellow, pink, blue, green, orange). On a projector in a bright room, a dark board with light strokes produces less glare than a mostly white screen.
Can I switch a board between chalkboard and whiteboard?
Yes. Open the paper menu and choose Switch to whiteboard. Marker colours are swapped for their matching chalk or ink colour, so nothing disappears.
Does the PDF export keep the dark background?
Yes. PNG and PDF exports include the slate background, so the file looks like the board. If you need a printer-friendly copy, switch to the whiteboard first and export that.
Is it free for teachers and schools?
Yes, with no accounts or limits. Boards are stored only in the browser on the device you use.
